Open House Stockholm celebrates its 10th anniversary with a weekend of free tours and activities from 3 to 5 October, inviting residents and visitors alike to explore the city through architecture. Marking a decade of opening doors, the festival continues to reveal the hidden sides of Stockholm, offering rare access to buildings and spaces that are usually closed to the public.

The 2025 edition of Open House Stockholm joins the continent-wide exploration of the shared theme Future Heritage. This theme reflects on how architecture is preserved, valued, and passed on to future generations, and how today’s choices shape tomorrow’s cultural identity.

Across the festival weekend, guided tours will introduce visitors to a wide range of sites—from historic environments and ongoing construction projects to examples of sustainable urban development. The programme highlights how past, present, and future intersect in the city’s development, encouraging conversations about what should endure and what must evolve.

Open House Stockholm 2025 promises fresh perspectives on the built environment, meetings with the people behind the projects, and opportunities to ask questions directly to experts. This year, the celebration of Stockholm’s architecture is also a celebration of ten years of curiosity, dialogue, and discovery.

We invite all visitors of Open House Stockholm to participate in the Open Call for Visual Stories—an opportunity to creatively interpret the festival experience and this year’s Open House Europe theme, “Future Heritage”. Submissions can take any visual form, including photography, short film, drawing, or other artistic expressions.

This year’s edition of Open House Stockholm, scheduled for October 4 to 6, 2024, will expand its scope to showcase a diverse range of architectural sites across Greater Stockholm, providing a unique opportunity to explore contemporary and historic buildings. The festival will provide public access to diverse spaces, bridging the gap between modern architectural developments and historical landmarks.

“Open House Stockholm creates a unique forum where experts, decision-makers, and interested public can meet and discuss the city’s history, present, and future. It is a democratic piece of the puzzle in the development of our city,” says Executive Officer Joanna Messmer.

<img fetchpriority="high" decoding="async" width="785" height="520" src="https://openhouseeurope.org/wp-content/uploads/2024/03/Vasakronan_Arena_Sergel_Foto_Ka╠ert_Kaljuvee_01-785x520.jpg" alt="Open House Stockholm.
The festival’s programme is thoughtfully curated to include a variety of building types—from newly constructed sites that highlight modern architecture to well-preserved historical landmarks that reflect Stockholm’s past. It features functional spaces like residential buildings, hospitals, and churches, alongside cultural venues like art galleries and theatres. In recognition of the importance of engaging diverse communities, the festival has expanded into the Greater Stockholm area, enabling a wider audience to participate.

Aligned with the Open House Europe 2024 programme’s focus on accessibility and inclusion, a key element of this year’s festival is its emphasis on inclusivity and providing a platform for diverse perspectives. For example, parks have been included in this year’s program to create spaces where architecture, play, and learning intersect, particularly for our younger audiences. Moreover, an audio tour will be available during the festival weekend, providing perspectives on architecture and urban planning from an LGBTQ+ point of view, and exploring how different groups experience and interact with the city.

We invite visitors of Open House Stockholm to participate in the Open Call for Visual Stories. It is an opportunity for everyone to interpret their experiences of the festival and the annual theme of Open House Europe—Accessibility and Inclusion—in any art form they wish—a series of photographs, a short film, a drawing, or any other medium for a visual narrative.
