Since its inception in 2014, Open House Athens has showcased and rebranded Athenian architecture beyond the city’s iconic, ancient monuments. The festival now presents guided tours of 70 buildings in Athens led by their architects and Open House volunteers, freely accessible to the public. Alongside this, Open House Athens hosts online tours of architectural offices, an educational programme called ‘Open School’, guided tours of architecturally interesting creative and production spaces as part of the ’Made in Athens’ programme, and thematic routes uncovering lesser-known sides of the city. Once a year, the event transforms Greece’s capital into a vast museum, showcasing its buildings and architecture as exhibits. Visitors can explore structures of cultural heritage next to contemporary marvels, and partake in city tours, competitions, discussions with architects and popup events.
