Open House Essen was launched in 2021. Named European Capital of Culture for 2010 and European Green Capital in 2017, Essen is the tenth-largest city in Germany and the first German city to join the Open House Worldwide network. For just one weekend a year, Open House Essen invites visitors to explore the city and to get to know its architectural history and diverse culture, from the classic architecture of the 1920s and the city’s industrial heritage to green spaces and new initiatives adapting existing buildings.
