A Street with a View
SelectedThe fabric of a city can be like a well-loved jumper—stretched and worn over time from wear, mended and patched to be made whole again. Sometimes, the mending work has been expertly done so it becomes one with the existing fabric. Other times, the repair is obvious, bringing attention not only to itself but to other details that may have been overlooked previously. It is easy to dismiss modern buildings in favour of existing structures, but that restricts a city’s ability to grow and stretch itself. What is important then is considering how new buildings can add to the conversation of the streetscape and harmonise with the existing built environment around it. Dublin, with its mish-mash skylines and structure, is still searching for its harmony.
