Certain past in uncertain future
Linnahall (Tallinn City Hall) and BLRT (Balti Laevaremonditehas, a shipbuilding company) are two rather controversial places in Tallinn, yet they will leave no one indifferent. While firmly rooted in history, their future remains murky and unknown to this day, keeping them closed to visitors for long periods. Linnahall, a venue completed in 1980 for Summer Olympics and situated in the harbour just beyond the walls of the Old Town, is now on the verge of destruction. BLRT is a private company that occupies a large area of land and has never been accessible to ordinary residents. Open House Tallinn opens the doors of these places and fills these lands with people again in 2025, giving us a chance to imagine any possible future for them. Re-working and respecting the past of these lands, keeping the heritage, forming the certain future in uncertain times.
