The question of restoring the 95-year-old theatre at the Brno Exhibition Centre
Is it possible to save such an old building without losing its character?
Is it possible to finance it? Will the reconstruction cost many times more than the cost of a new building?
Is this sustainable?
The former theatre and cinema with a café was designed by Emil Králík in 1928. This social and cultural centre of the then newly built exhibition centre represents an outstanding expression of interwar functionalist architecture. After the war, the theatre was temporarily occupied by the Julius Fucik, Theatre company, performing shows for children and young people. Since the late 1990s, the building has been excluded from public use due to its poor technical condition and is only accessible on special occasions.
