Living Heritage
This photograph was taken during Open House Vilnius 2025 in the inner courtyard of Senators’ Passage (Senatorių pasažas) a historic site in Vilnius Old Town. Once a noble residence, later turned into apartments and shops, it was closed off during the Soviet era. Recently, it has been revived as a public and walkable space.
The image captures a man walking through the courtyard, surrounded by restored architecture, greenery,
a bicycle, and signs of everyday life. Two unrestored window frames subtly reveal the sites layered
past.
This moment reflects the theme of “Future Heritage” by showing how built heritage can be lived in,
adapted, and made relevant today. The contrast between the historical architecture and present-day use
encourages reflection: what should we preserve, reuse, or rethink?
Here, heritage is not frozen-it is part of everyday movement, meaningfully evolving without losing its
memory.
