Right from the start, Busarás was conceived not only as a bus terminal but also as a civic building that would bring together transport, architecture, art and public life. Over time, the building’s form and materials—Portland stone cladding, Irish oak floors, bespoke mosaics by the artist Patrick Scott—have matured beautifully rather than aged.

I believe this café could be reopened not merely as a restaurant but as a civic venue where architecture, stunning views and social experience meet. Its original purpose of being ‘for people’ still resonates deeply, and the building’s beauty and relevance have endured and become iconic. Adapting it for the future does not mean erasing its past. Rather, it means honouring its original ambition: a building for all, with elegant public space, material integrity and panoramic connection to the city.
